The Fast & Furious actor hinted heavily on Instagram that a movie adaptation of the popular survival game Ark: Survival Evolved was in the works.
Actor Vin Diesel has indicated that the popular indie game ARK: Survival Evolved will be headed to the big screen.
Diesel, most notable for his role as Dom Toretto in the Fast & Furious series, suggested that the film was in development in an Instagram post on June 12.
“The best game out right now is ARK: Survival Evolved… my son introduced me to the game many years back,” said the actor in the post. “Then Wildcard and all of the geniuses over there asked me to shepherd the IP into the TV and Film space… an honor I can’t begin to describe.
Any real gamer is excited for ARK 2!!! But I am excited for you all to see the franchise unfold on the big screen.”
A cinematic trailer accompanied the post for the game’s upcoming sequel, ARK 2, which is set to launch in 2023. The trailer, which featured an outlandish scene of Diesel and a child riding an armored dinosaur, teased new bits of lore to gamers through a short monologue and a view of the alien landscape.
However, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the Fast & Furious star’s first time appearing in the ARK universe. Diesel was introduced in the game’s final expansion, ARK: Genesis Part 2, in 2021.
ARK: Survival Evolved is a 2017 survival game developed by Studio Wildcard. In the game, the player must craft and fight to survive on one of several maps inhabited by prehistoric animals in an unforgiving, terrifying experience reminiscent of being lost on the Jurassic Park islands.
Upon its release, the game would receive mixed reviews, with most criticizing the lengthy amount of grinding and the harsh difficulty. However, as of 2019, ARK has sold over 20 million copies worldwide.
This is not Diesel’s first video game involvement, either, nor his first work on an adaptation of Ark. Besides his upcoming work on the live-action film and Survival Evolved, Diesel lent his voice-acting talents to Ark: The Animated Series, reprising his role as Santiago.
Diesel additionally played the title character in the popular Riddick franchise, which spanned two games and three films. The actor recently shared storyboard images for the fourth film in the series, expressing excitement for Riddrick’s next adventures
