Lynn Forbes responds to Kairo performance backlash.
Eight-year-old Kairo, daughter of the late rapper AKA, recently performed at Galaxy 947 Joburg Day. This performance followed a tribute to AKA by K.O, Khuli Chana, Yanga Chief, Thato Saul, Da L.E.S, Nadia Nakai, and The Mega Band. Kairo took to the stage to sing her father’s song, “Company”.
Support on Stage
During her performance, Kairo was joined on stage by her late father’s family and business partner. Tony Forbes, her grandfather, Lynn Forbes, her grandmother, and Raphael Benza, AKA’s business partner, all stood in support of Kairo.

Reaction to the Performance
Kairo’s performance was emotionally charged and left some audience members in tears. However, it also sparked a debate among social media users. They questioned whether it was a healthy choice for Kairo to perform so publicly only seven months after her father’s tragic murder.

In response to the social media debate, Lynn Forbes defended her granddaughter. She clarified that Kairo was not forced into performing. Instead, she expressed her desire to perform at Joburg Day and insisted on doing so alone. Lynn shared that Kairo said: “I’m going to perform at Joburg Day. I don’t want anyone to go on stage with me. I’m going to sing my daddy’s voice, by myself”. According to Lynn, this decision sat well with Kairo and she was very proud of herself.
